Thank you for using Birthday Reminder (com.birthdayreminder.countdowns). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application on iOS and Android.
1. The Short Version
We collect nothing. We store nothing on our servers. We have no servers. All data you enter into Birthday Reminder— names, birthdays, photos, notes, and gift ideas — is stored exclusively on your device using local on-device storage. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it via your device's native share sheet.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or process:
- Personal identifiers (name, email address, phone number)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Crash reports sent to our servers
- Advertising identifiers
- Location data
- Any data from your contacts beyond what you explicitly add
3. Data Stored on Your Device
The following data is created and stored locally on your device:
- Names, birthdays, and relationship labels you enter
- Profile photos you choose from your photo library or camera
- Personal notes and gift log entries
- App settings and notification preferences
This data is managed by your device's operating system. If you delete the app, all locally stored data is permanently removed.
4. Permissions We Request
The app may request the following device permissions. All are optional and only used for the stated purpose:
iOS
- Contacts — to let you import birthdays from your existing contacts. We read only the name and birthday fields of contacts you explicitly select.
- Photo Library & Camera — to let you add a profile photo for a person. Photos are stored locally on your device.
- Notifications — to deliver birthday reminder alerts at the times you configure.
- Calendars— to add birthday events to your native calendar when you tap "Add to Calendar".
Android
- READ_CONTACTS — contact import (same as iOS above).
- CAMERA / READ_MEDIA_IMAGES — profile photos.
- POST_NOTIFICATIONS — birthday reminder notifications (Android 13+).
- SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM / USE_EXACT_ALARM — ensures reminders fire at the exact time you set.
- RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — reschedules notifications after a device restart so you never miss a reminder.
5. Third-Party Services
Birthday Reminder does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-broker services. The app does not use Google Firebase, Facebook SDK, or any equivalent tracking library.
The only external network calls the app may make are system-level (e.g., downloading fonts via Google Fonts at build time — not at runtime). No user data is involved.
6. Children's Privacy
Birthday Reminder is rated 4+ (iOS) / Everyone (Android) and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. No account creation or online interaction is required to use the app.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
Because all data lives on your device, you control its lifecycle:
- Delete individual records inside the app at any time.
- Uninstall the app to delete all associated data permanently.
- On iOS, use Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Birthday Reminder → Delete App to remove the app and its data.
- On Android, go to Settings → Apps → Birthday Reminder → Storage → Clear Data, or uninstall the app.
8. Security
Your data is protected by the security features of your device's operating system (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore sandboxing). We recommend using a device passcode or biometric lock for additional protection.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
