How do I add a birthday?
Tap the + button on the home screen, enter the person's name and birthday, then tap Save. You can also import birthdays directly from your Contacts app via Settings → Import from Contacts.
Why am I not receiving reminder notifications?
Make sure notifications are enabled for Birthday Reminder in your device Settings. On iOS go to Settings → Birthday Reminder → Notifications and enable Allow Notifications. On Android go to Settings → Apps → Birthday Reminder → Notifications and turn them on. Also check that Do Not Disturb / Focus mode is not blocking alerts.
Can I customize how many days in advance I get reminded?
Yes. Go to Settings inside the app and adjust the reminder schedule. You can enable or disable reminders at 30, 7, 3, and 1 day(s) before, as well as on the birthday itself.
How do I import birthdays from my Contacts?
Open Settings in the app and tap Import from Contacts. Grant the Contacts permission when prompted. The app will show only contacts that have a birthday set — select the ones you want to import.
Does the app sync to the cloud or share my data?
No. All your birthday data stays on your device. There is no account, cloud database, advertising, analytics, or data sharing. Copies may remain in device backups managed by Apple or Google, depending on your backup settings.
How do I add the Home Screen widget?
On iPhone, touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget and search for Birthday Reminder. On Android, touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, choose Widgets, then select Birthday Reminder.
What is included for free?
You can track up to 5 people for free with reminders, gift ideas, contact import, and widgets. Premium is a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks unlimited birthdays; it is not a subscription.
Which languages are available?
Birthday Reminder supports English, French, Spanish, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and Arabic. Choose System default or a specific language in Settings → App Language.
How do I add a birthday to my calendar?
Open a person's detail page and tap "Add to Calendar". The app will create a recurring yearly event in your native Calendar app.
Can I add a photo to a contact?
Yes. Open the person's detail page, tap their avatar, and choose to take a photo or pick one from your photo library.
How do I delete a birthday?
Open the person's detail page and tap the delete icon, or swipe left on their card in the main list.
Troubleshooting
Notifications stopped firing after a phone restart
- This is a known Android limitation. The app uses a background service to reschedule notifications after a reboot, but some manufacturers aggressively kill background tasks.
- On Android, go to Settings → Apps → Birthday Reminder → Battery and set it to Unrestricted.
- If the problem persists, open the app once after restarting — this triggers a full reschedule.
Imported contacts are not showing their birthday
- The contact must have a birthday field filled in your device's Contacts app.
- Open the Contacts app, find the person, tap Edit, and add their birthday. Then re-import inside Birthday Reminder.
The app is crashing on launch
- Force-close the app and reopen it.
- If it continues, try restarting your device.
- As a last resort, delete and reinstall the app. Note: this will erase your saved birthdays.
- If the crash persists after reinstalling, use the contact form with your device model and OS version.
Dark mode is not switching correctly
- Open Birthday Reminder → Settings and find Appearance.
- Choose Auto to follow your device, or select Light or Dark directly.
- If Auto does not update, confirm your system appearance and reopen the app.
